Welcome to my site containing railroad photos spanning 3 decades of travels throughout the US and Canada. Photographs are organized by category, which when selected provides a list of railroads, each with it's own gallery of thumbnails which can be opened up to full size.
What you won't find in this site: Hundreds of shots of BNSF, CSX and UP widecabs (not that there's anything wrong with that). But what you will find are vintage pictures of some "fallen flag" roads and some present day little-remarked regionals and off the beaten path shortlines. And, yes, there are some current shots of the major roads' widecabs. I have also attempted to provide some additional information about the railroad, the engines or the location of many of the pictures, in addition to the usual date and city.
Having been born and currently living in the Buffalo, NY area, a majority of the shots are from the Northeast, Midwest and southern Ontario, but there are (or will be) pictures on this site from all 48 lower states, as well as Alaska and many of the Canadian provinces.
Favorites of mine are shots including bridges and bodies of water, such as the Amtrak shoreline in Connecticut, especially the stretch between New Haven and Stonington, and the CSX West Shore Line along the Hudson. Locomotive-wise I favor Alcos, especially the Century series diesels and you will find many of those here, along with EMD F units and a few Baldwins, F-M's and Limas.
Some of these pictures have appeared on other contributory websites. On this site I will be posting many of my favorites, not subject to some other's approval of what is a good shot or not. In the same way, some of the older shots are a bit grainy (The picture may be 30 years old, taken with less than perfect equipment and older film.), but the subject matter outweighs the lack of perfection.....I hope you agree.
